BACKMASK

Writer/Director

Set in the shadowy afterglow of 1970s rock stardom, Backmask follows faded frontman Billy Chapman as he retreats to a remote country manor to reclaim his creative spark and prove he can go it alone. But in the silence of his new sanctuary, something darker stirs—an unspeakable force with a voice of its own, and a burning desire to be heard.

Co-written and co-directed by myself and long-time collaborator Matt Fitch, Backmask is a throwback to the analog paranoia of vintage British horror—equal parts gothic tension and psychedelic dread. It’s a love letter to the haunted edges of creativity, scored to a dirge of isolation, ego, and the voices we can’t turn off.

The film has struck a chord on the international horror circuit, winning over a dozen major awards including Best Short Film, Best Director, and Best Horror across the UK and US. From the British Horror Film Festival to New York City Horror Fest, Backmask continues to make noise where it matters.
